Two endings and the way forward

When John and I met eight years ago, he was 56 and I was 65 years old. Yes, he is my toy boy, not! However, he is quite silly on occasions and makes me laugh, which is great. I think a sense of humour in a relationship is essential.

Nonetheless, when we met, I was retired but John was still working. He worked as a mechanic in a bowling alley, servicing the machines and repairing them when they went wrong.

So, you can guess my surprise, last Tuesday when he sent me a WhatsApp to say he had retired. Yes, told his boss that he was not returning after that day! It was a little more complicated than that, he had talked with his boss previously and been given the option of retiring, and when he asked how much notice he had to give, had been told that none was necessary.

As he said, you never know what the future holds, and he wished to spend more time with me, which was also fine by me. I think it is great we have each other now 24/7.

Talking about what he wanted to do with his spare time, he said we could hire bikes and ride along the seafront, and he wanted to go out sailing, and walk with our dog Luca, more too.

Well, for me it has been a complete change as now I have to feed him every day, as he used to have his main meal at work, five days a week. However, that is no problem as he likes to cook as well and helps me with the housework too. We now look at all our saved recipes, and cookbooks, and determine to try at least two new recipes a week.

For now, as well, the bike rides and sailing are on hold at the moment as now he has the time to do all those little jobs around the house, that he has been meaning to tackle, and now has no excuse not to complete. That gives me the time to do my writing, so that works well. Then the afternoon is for having our lunch, then resting and swimming in the pool, before we make the dinner for the evening. I must say that life is good!

As I mentioned in the blog “An ending and a beginning”, book 4 of the Morgan Morales Murder Mystery Series “Unforgivable Sins” is complete, finished, edited and about to be justified – ready for printing in a few weeks.

It is strange sitting here feeling that I may never write about Morgan or Morales again but, we shall have to see if inspiration arises and they fight the good fight again. In the meantime, I shall, once “Unforgiveable Sins” is printed, start on the translation of the book in Spanish, ready for printing in December. In the new year I will see if there is a new murder mystery to write or if the other idea I have for a standalone story becomes a full book, or perhaps a short story. If the latter is the case, I shall have to write some more short stories! So many options, next year sounds promising.
