New beginnings

Every year we look forward to the new year, and hope for everything to be better than before. That may mean setting goals in the form of resolutions, perhaps to exercise more, eat healthier or read more books, for instance.

However, in reality the difference between December 31st and January 1st is a matter of a second, and although most of us are not working, and may be celebrating, one day is really much like another.

We should not wait for The New Year to improve our lives with resolutions that will probably fail within a short time, change should come when it is time for change. Unhappy in your job, look for a better one. Jump on the scales and cringe, determine to eat healthier...these should be enacted when they occur.

However,  when we consider the world there are far more reaching concerns, war, famine, too many underprivileged, but how much can we in our general lives alter these grave matters ? I guess we must put pressure on the politicians to do our bidding.

Now let’s think about more cheerful things! Here in Spain the sun is shining, flowers are still in bloom and I am sitting here in the afternoon writing to you with the door open. So, life is good. This last year has been a wonderful one for me, with family visiting for the wedding celebration, and holidays to Jerez de la Frontera and to Úbeda being very enjoyable times.

I hope you can look back with fond memories and now, with me, look forward to 2023. Whatever it brings may we have the heart to enjoy it and the strength to survive it. Happy New Year!
