My June of 2025

When I sat down to write this blog I could not think of one theme to base it on, so I decided to tell you about what is going on in my life this month.

First, let's talk about Luca a bit. For a start, his official name is Lucas, but it did not seem to suit him, whereas Luca did! Tomorrow will mark the fourth week since we collected him, and he is already so much part of our family. He is such a character, but still a puppy.

I love that when John comes home from work, he recognises the sound of the car, and goes out the front, standing on his hind legs, the better to be able to see John arrive.

He has been a bit destructive, though so far, we have not lost any shoes or slippers. He has completely destroyed the bed he slept in at night, so now he has one that has not got stuffing he can pull out! He also has a new lead, this time a chain. We were sat at the bar last week with Luca tied to the chair, when suddenly John saw him walking away. Yes! He had chewed through his lead, and gained his freedom, for about two minutes!

Now the kitchen. John has finished building all the cabinets, and I have taken immense pleasure in unpacking everything from its storage boxes and finding its new home. I now have a pull-out larder, a broom cupboard and, for me finally, the corner unit is dedicated to my baking. No more delving in a box, trying to find this or that, I just rotate and choose. The only thing that is waiting to complete the kitchen is the worktops.

For now, John has put down spare shelves and panels, to give us a bit of a surface to work on. The washing machine and the dishwasher, both integrated, are now installed and functioning, as is the oven and the smart oven/microwave. The only items missing are the sink and the hob, both which have to be installed after the worktop.

I have also appreciated that our back garden is no longer a builder's yard, nor a workshop. All the rubble and dust have been swept away, and my plants are appreciating regular watering and less dust too. We also have a new shed, which is to store the pellets for the pellet burner in the winter. Being a garden shed it has hooks for your spades but, with our new tidy kitchen, where everything is stowed away out of sight, my airer fits in the shed on the spade hooks perfectly, keeping the garden tidy too.

We went to the marble and granite company near to where we live to tell them that the kitchen was now installed, and ready for them to measure accurately, before cutting and installing our granite worktop. Every time we go to the shop, I stroke the sample of the worktop we have chosen and I cannot wait to see it installed.

The only problem was that they had an order for twenty worktops the week before, and therefore they were really busy. I told them that they had to install before we went on holiday, on the 4th of July, otherwise it would have to be left until after we come back, on the 18th of July.

It had to be the latter, but that brought another problem to the fore. Could we, in all honesty, allow a pet sitter to live for two weeks without a sink or hob. It is true that I do, daily, but it is my home, and that is different. However, I frantically searched a dog hotel, in case the pet sitter cancelled, and John sent her a message, explaining that we don't have a sink or hob, but we have a dishwasher, an oven and an air fryer, plus various other cooking facilities. We were happy when she replied that she was sure she could cope, and we were not to worry.

So here we are, just three weeks away from our holiday, and neither of us can wait. We are staying in Andalusia again, revisiting our favourite cities, and visiting some new ones too. No doubt, when we get back, I shall tell you all about it. Keep cool and could you let me know your summer plans?
